ChengTing Hua - was from cheng village, sun district of hebei province, he owned a spectacle shop in beijing and thus earned the nickname “spectacle cheng”.Cheng Ting Hua was already a very skilled master in shuai jiao, a kind of chinese wrestling, (which also uses punches and kicks) before he met together with Dong Hai Chuan. He started to train with Dong when he was 28 years old. Cheng was short, but strong and known for his impulsive nature. He loved to teach and had many students, they met together in the temple of the fire god in beijing and practised there together, because his spectacle shop was close to his temple.when dong hai chuan got old, he used to sit beside and give instructions. In July in 1900, when foreign troops entered beijing, he took responsibility fordefending his people agaist the invasion. He tried to defend himself against a dozen soldiers, armed with only two daggers. It was later found that he had killed more than 10 soldiers single handed, beforethey pull out guns and shot him to death...........

Li Wen Biao – was a disciple of Cheng Tinghua. His birth year and location is unknown, but his contribution to Baguazhang stands today. Li was considered to be one of Cheng’s most outstanding students. He was physically a large and powerfully built man with bright eyes and a tremendous spirit. He has been described as burly and extremely strong. He gained a deep understanding of Cheng Style Baguazhang directly from Cheng. Li accepted a command position under Xu Shichang, the Supervisor of the Military, and went to Fengtian in search of foreign spies. He asked his friend and Bagua brother, Cheng Yougong, to accompany him on this mission. He reportedly accompanied Sun Lutang on many of his teaching journeys. After the death of Cheng Tinghua, Li took a position in the Imperial Guard of the Ching Dynasty. He eventually served as a martial arts instructor to the Imperial troops. Li Wenbiao is remembered for his Depressing Palm (ta zhang), which it is said that if Li used only 30% of his power that his opponent would surely be injured.Li Wenbiao was held in high esteem in the martial arts community. His most notable disciple was Luo Xingwu.

Luo Xingwu (1881-1969) – was born in Lu County in Hebei Province. He was a direct disciple of Li Wenbiao, and also studied with Cheng Youlong, the son of Cheng Tinghua. He worked under Li Wenbiao in the Ching Dynasty Imperial Guard and was considered one of Li’s Twenty Best Braids. He was an associate of He Zhongqi, the grandson of Yin Fu, and trained with him as well. Luo was able to transition to the new Republic of China army and was posted to Manchuria in the 1930’s. During the Sino-Japanese War during that time, Luo had an encounter that would immortalize his Bagua skills. During a point in the hostilities, Luo found himself facing a famed Japanese warrior who was carrying a katana (Japanese sword). Luo was weaponless and quickly grabbed a slender branch from a nearby tree. Given this vastly inferior weapon, Luo was able to use the clever footwork of Baguazhang to confuse and elude the Japanese warrior. He eventually was able to disarm the Japanese soldier and then beat him into submission. His most notable student was Liu Jingru.

Liu Jingru (1936-present) – was born in Gaoyang County in Hebei Province in 1936.He started training under Luo Xingwu in 1957 at the age of twenty-one and became a direct disciple. He gained ability and skill under the guidance and teachings of Luo Xingwu. This lead to Liu taking first place in the Baguazhang division in the last martial arts competition before the start of the Cultural Revolution in 1963 at the age of twenty-seven. Once this era of Chinese history ended, another national martial arts competitionwas held in 1979. This time Liu was forty-three years of age, but still won the gold medal. He competed one more time the following year before turning to a career as an instructor. Liu also studied Cheng Style Baguazhang with Cheng Youxin. He has published two books on Baguazhang in China. He still trains daily and is still fast, loose, powerful and full of energy. His main Lineage holders are Kong Cheng and Han yan Wu.

Yin Fu - was Dong's earliest disciple in Prince Duan's palace. Yin's kungfu skills advanced very fast during the next several years and Duan let Yin join the king's security guards. When Master Dong retired, Yin took over as the supervisor of the security guards, working for the emperor in the Forbidden City. The Empress Dowager liked his skill and even wanted to study with him.During the Boxer Rebellion he protected the Empress singlehanded to help her move to exile.

Yin Yuzhang (1890-1950) – was the fourth son of Yin Fu. Like his older brother, Yin Chengzhang, he practiced the art of Yin Style Baguazhang under the guidance of his father and his top disciples. This branch of Yin Style did manage to survive. He was known to have trained under both Ma Gui and Zhang Shouhung in addition to his father. Yin Yuzhang wrote a book on the art and it was published in 1932. The title was simply Baguazhang. This work is currently not available in English. During the 1930’s, Yin also published a book on the use of the Baguazhang Sword. Yin Yuzhang served as an instructor at the Nanjing Central Martial Arts Academy. He taught there with other Baguazhang instructors, Huang Bonian and Jiang Rongqiao, but was the only representative of Yin Style Baguazhang. Yin Yuzhang had several known students including Liu Xiqu, Guo Zhushan (also a disciple of Cheng Youlong),

Wang Fu - was a disciple of Yin Yuzhang, the son of the famed Yin Fu. His early training has yet be be uncovered by research. Wang Fu was also the only disciple of He Zhongqi, who was the grandson of Yin Fu. He received a full transmission of He’s art.Wang trained his son, Wang Shangzhi, and passed on to him a full transmission of the art.

Wang Shangzhi - is the son and disciple of Wang Fu. His father trained under Yin Yuzhang, Yin Fu’s son, and He Zhongqi, Yin Fu’s grandson. The elder Wang received the full transmission of the teachings of He Zhongqi and passed them to his son, Wang Shangzhi. He served as Vice-President of the Beijing Baguazhang Research Association

Baguazhang, the palm of the 8 trigramms, is a Chinese martial art. There are many stories and legends about the origin of this amazing art.Historically we can say that one day, a man named Dong Hai Chuan appeared in beijing around the year 1860 and became very famous for his fighting skills.Dong Hai Chuan later became the main instructor of the imperial guards in the Forbidden city. This was the highest position for a martial artist, and his name became very well known all over China. Many skilled martial artist have heard that Dong was never defeated in battle, and many tried to fight against him, but noone ever succeeded. His method of teaching was unique, since he never thaught anyone who wasnt already expert in martial arts. Someone who wanted to be his student, had to practise many years of martial arts before Dong even wanted to talk to them.Baguazhang was like a university for martial artists, no middleschool, no college. It was a highly sophisticated martial art, and everybody who wanted to learn from Dong had to show his absolutely strong will. Every student had to devote himself to a live for this art.Together with his student, he would create a completely new Baguazhang style, depending on the background and the knowledge of each of his student, and combine it with Dong`s principles of the Baguazhang art.

This Lineage is not very complete, since many practitioners had different masters and got instructions from many sides, for example liu jingru also learned yin style with he zhongqi, and was further guided by cheng youxin. this should only be an idea how the Lineage was transmitted. If you are interessted in more detail, please feel free to write me.
